From November 9th – 12th I attended this year’s Hammamet Conference in Tunisia on „Building Peaceful and Inclusive Societies“ as part of theEgyptian delegation . In my presentation „Reintegrating former Combatants: A Conflict Transformation Perspective“ in the Panel on „Reintegration and Social Cohesion“ I proposed an elicitive approach to conflict transformation that focuses on relational security and the different layers of conflict beyond the apparent episodes of violence, when addressing the complexities of current conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa. -
(c) Creative Commons Nach über zehn Jahren nationaler Spaltung haben sich die beiden verfeindeten palästinensischen Fraktionen Fatah und Hamas vergangene Woche darauf geeinigt, ein bereits 2011 ausgearbeitetes Versöhnungsabkommen in Kraft zu setzen. Dieser Schritt wurde auf den Straßen von Gaza mit Jubelszenen gefeiert. Was bedeutet dies aber nun für den Nahost-Konflikt? Um das Potenzial dieser neuen Situation von womöglich historischer Bedeutung einzuordnen, ist es nötig, die verschiedenen internen und externen Faktoren dieses Übereinkommens zu analysieren. Mein ausführlicher Gastbeitrag zum nationalen Schulterschluss zwischen Hamas und Fatah wurde am 21. Oktober 2017 in der Printausgabe der Tiroler Tageszeitung gedruckt. At the 2017 International Institute for Peace Education I had the wonderful opportunity to facilitate a Workshop on the topic of John Paul Lederach’s Moral Imagination, a book that is very dear to my heart and central to my reserach, along with my dear colleague Alejandra Barrera, who taught me quite a lot about the art of Haiku writing. -
